Nevada Drug Treatment Centers and Programs

There are several types of drug detox programs. In Nevada, some of the main programs focus on detox, short-term inpatient treatment less than 60 days, outpatient treatment and long term inpatient treatment. The patients are either admitted via walk-ins, hospitals or come from police custody. In Nevada drug rehab and detox centers accept patients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Drug rehab is a serious and arduous process, so it’s very important that addicts and their families be educated on all the options available.

When entering a rehab program, detox is one of the first things done to cancel out up to years of drug and alcohol abuse to undo the negative changes in the body and brain. Several different types of programs are available in Nevada, so there are plenty to choose from.

Drug detox is often a long process and addicts will need every bit of support they can get. In fact, a full detox program can take years, depending on the severity of the addiction, and there still is chance of a relapse into drug or alcohol abuse – a problem that costs Nevada taxpayers large sums of money every year.

Because there are mental symptoms as well, a staff of psychologists will be on call at Nevada drug rehab and detox centers, and can ease the patient through the process, helping them on the way toward living a better, more drug-free life and to become more productive in society. For the most part, inpatient programs are still considered to be the most successful although most patients seem to prefer going outpatient to avoid an extended leave of absence.

Residential programs as well are offered in Nevada, with twenty-four hour support in both medical needs and emergency counseling. The reason for this is that withdrawal from alcohol or other drugs can often have severe mental symptoms. This varies widely from person to person, but generally, the physical symptoms of withdrawal are night sweats, tremors, nausea and occasionally hallucinations. At one time, these were things all addicts undergoing detox and withdrawal had to deal with, but with rapid detox programs in Nevada, the process is much smoother because with rapid detox, the patient is under anesthetic while the toxins are being purged.

Another problem drug is oxycontin, which is a very powerful prescription pain reliever. Oxycontin is sold on the streets, and has caused the deaths of several Nevadans via overdose or side effects. The symptoms of oxycontin detox are similar to those of heroin detox. Detox is a hard process at first – when the body become addicted to any substance  it finds it extremely hard to cope when faced with having to deal without that substance to maintain homeostasis.

Finances are no worry – many Nevada drug rehab programs are covered by health insurance policies, but private ones are quite expensive and will only manage partial coverage. The expense can be overwhelming, but the prospect of living a happy, healthy and self-sufficient life is often able to offset the cost. Even after treatment, there is still risk of relapse, so treatment centers often schedule counseling sessions after discharge to check on the patient’s progress and teach them healthy coping mechanisms and thereby avoid running into the same problems that brought them to drugs to begin with.
