Alcohol Addiction and Alcohol Abuse in Teenagers

Alcohol addiction has always been on the rise in the juvenile population as has been indicated by the large number of alcohol rehab centers mushrooming everywhere in each state of the advanced countries of the world. The figures that studies have thrown up about juvenile alcohol addiction are quite disturbing to say the least. Here are some of these statistics from surveys in the US.

Each year, at least 1,700 college students who are aged between 18 years and 24 years die because of alcohol related accidents, including DUI.

The cases of assault because of juvenile inebriation largely go unreported and there is no concrete proof of what this number will be. But just the number of reported crimes is 696,000 per year. If you add to that the vast number of unreported assaults, you might fall off your chair.

Alcoholism and sex have always been quite intermingled. Teenagers have a high susceptibility rate here. About 400,000 people between the age groups of 18 years to 24 years have unsafe sexual episodes under the influence of alcohol abuse. But, the more alarming fact is that 100,000 of these people do not even know if the sex was voluntary or forced because they were too drunk to remember.

25% of all college students voluntarily admit that they have met with some kind of loss in their studies at least once in the year because they were under alcoholic influence. This includes missing examinations, which wastes a considerable part of their academic life.

An astounding amount of students, 2.1 millions, drive under influence in any average year. These students are then forced into

that often do little good.
